Zodia Custody Secures Luxembourg Stablecoin Licence

Zodia Custody has secured a Payment Institution licence from Luxembourg’s financial regulator, expanding its ability to support regulated stablecoin services across the European Union.

The approval from the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) allows Zodia Custody Europe to provide custody and transfer services for Electronic Money Tokens (EMTs), commonly known as regulated stablecoins.

The licence complements the company’s existing Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) authorization, strengthening its position within Europe’s growing digital asset infrastructure market.

Expanding stablecoin capabilities

The new authorization enables Zodia Custody to extend its services beyond traditional digital asset custody and support the movement and safekeeping of regulated stablecoins under a compliant framework.

As stablecoins gain traction across payments, treasury management, liquidity operations, and institutional settlement, demand for regulated infrastructure continues to grow.

By combining Payment Institution status with its MiCA authorization, Zodia Custody can offer clients a more integrated platform for managing both crypto assets and stablecoin transactions.

The company believes this approach reduces operational complexity while improving efficiency for institutions operating across multiple digital asset use cases.

Institutional adoption accelerates

The approval reflects broader institutional demand for regulated digital asset infrastructure as banks, asset managers, and corporations expand their involvement in digital finance.

Ami Nagata, Chief Executive Officer of Zodia Custody Europe, said regulatory certainty remains essential for institutional adoption.

“Institutional adoption of crypto assets demands infrastructure that meets the highest standards of regulatory adherence and operational efficiency,” Nagata said.

“Securing a Payment Institution licence alongside our MiCA CASP authorisation gives clients greater confidence in managing both stablecoin and crypto asset activities within a regulated environment.”

Stablecoins become financial infrastructure

Regulated stablecoins are increasingly being viewed as a foundational component of digital finance.

Across financial markets, institutions are exploring stablecoins for:

  • Cross-border payments
  • Treasury and liquidity management
  • Institutional settlement
  • Digital asset trading
  • On-chain financial services

As adoption grows, providers capable of combining custody, transfer, and compliance services within a single framework are expected to play a larger role in the digital asset ecosystem.
